Silent Sunlight

Surah Ad-DhuhaChapter 93 of the Holy Quran

Silent Sunlight
a song by Dawud Wharnsby Ali
Album: The Prophet's Hands

La ilaha ilallah, La ilaha ilallah.

Silent sunlight welcome in,
there is work I must now begin,
All my dreams have blown away,
and the children wait to play,
They’ll soon remember things to do…
when the heart is young…
and the night is done…
and the sky is blue.

La ilaha ilallah, La ilaha ilallah.

Morning songbirds sing away,
lend the tune to another day.
Bring your wings and choose a roof,
sing a song of love and truth.
We’ll soon remember if you do…
when all things we’re tall…
and our friends were small…
and the world was new.

La ilaha ilallah, La ilaha ilallah.

Sleepy horses heave away,
put your backs to the golden hay.
Don’t ever look behind at the work you’ve done,
for your work has just begun.
They’ll be the evening in the end…
but ‘til that time arrives…
you can rest your eyes…
and begin again.

La ilaha ilallah,
silent sunlight…
La ilaha ilallah, morning songbirds…
La ilaha ilallah,
silent sunlight welcome in.

This is a new favorite song of mine. Sounds a bit like church hymns. Wharnsby Ali's voice is definitely soothing to the ears. It is as if his voice is sweets and candies to my ears. The harmonic texture is truly, as mentioned, breathtaking and mesmerizing, too. The song describes the ambiance of the morning at the start of the day.

Among the recommended practices of the Prophet peace be upon him is solat Dhuha. Many Hadith narrate its importance and encourages it to be performed.

Narrated from the Prophet peace be upon him:
"Every morning, make it a habit upon every joint of your body to give charity, every tahlil (la ilaha ilallah) is a charity, every takbir (Allahu akbar) is a charity, enjoining righteousness is a charity, and it is sufficient (as a replacement) for the aforementioned deeds to perform two rakaat of solat Dhuha."
[Sahih Bukhari & Muslim]

The advantage of praying Dhuha is it opens up your fortunes and prevents you from being in destitute. As recorded in Kitab An-Nurain in which it is recorded that the Prophet peace be upon him said: "Two rakaat of Dhuha brings in wealth and keeps away impoverishment."

The time for Dhuha prayer is when the sun rises up to about a pole's high from the horizon until noon. The method to perform the prayer is similar as with other sunah (recommended) prayers which is two rakaat with one salam. It can also be done in four, six or eight rakaat. According to some scholars the amount of rakaat is unlimited because it is not explicitly limited by the Prophet as was narrated by her wife Aishah:

"The Prophet peace be upon him prays Dhuha four rakaat after which he adds as much rakaat as he pleases."
[Reported by Ahmad, Muslim & Ibn Majah]
